Mission

Green Tara Yoga & Healing Arts is dedicated to enhancing health, awareness and serenity through Iyengar Yoga and healing arts including Reiki, Energy Balancing and Feng Shui. Our goal is to provide students and clients with clear and compassionate guidance through classes, workshops and private sessions. Our experienced instructors are highly trained professionals ready to support your growth and development. We hope to serve others on the path towards physical health and vitality, mental clarity and awareness, and emotional poise and serenity.

Our business is named after Tara, the female embodiment of compassion found both in Buddhist and Hindu traditions. Tara is a mother figure who is said to lead beings to the state of enlightenment. Tara also represents healing and protection. Her green color represents skillful activity that leads to liberation from suffering.

Our logo is based on this photo that co-director Karen Allgire took in India while studying at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute.

The eight petals of the flower in our logo remind us of the eight aspects of yoga outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, as well as the Eightfold Path of the Buddha. In many images of Tara, she holds flowers, signifying purity and healing.

Teachers

Karen Allgire, MFA, RYT, has been teaching dance and movement since 1982 and yoga since 1998. She is an Intermediate Junior I Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor and a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance. Karen has studied at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India and will return for further training in August 2008.

Cliff Berns, BA, LMT, is a healing arts practitioner with over 16 years of experience. He has been practicing Reiki since 1992 and teaching since 1995. Cliff's work focuses on energetic, shamanic and spiritual support for self-healing and transformation. He also shares insight and guidance in creating and deepening the experience of sacred space in homes and businesses.

Colleen Clark, MFA, RYT, is a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance and a certified Relax and Renew yoga instructor. She has over 20 years of experience as teacher and performer of modern dance and improvisation.

Shaw-Jiun Chalitsios-Wang, MLS, is an Intermediate Junior II Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor. Shaw has trained extensively with Lois Steinberg, a senior Iyengar teacher specializing in therapeutics. Shaw has also studied at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India.

The studio is located in Cleveland Heights at Cedar and Fairmount. We are in the Fairmount Square building, adjacent to the Heights Medical Building and next to Dave’s Market. There is free parking behind the building. Enter the building from the back through the brick covered walkway.

The office is located off Mayfield Road between Taylor and Warrensville, six houses south of Mayfield on the west side of Maple Road. For private sessions, park on Maple Road across the street from the house. Program fees and correspondence should be sent to this address.
